土のアトリエ / Earthen Atelier

Hankai Architectsのアトリエ。設計業務の傍ら、スタッフと一緒に床はレンガを敷き、壁と天井は土を練って塗り、木材を加工して家具を施工。建築家が素材を知り、実際に触れ、最低限施工できる術を心得ていること、設計アトリエがかつてのAtelier（工房）のようにものをつくり、手を動かして思考することの必然性を感じ、どこにでもある「土」で空間を創造した。

Hankai Architects' atelier. In addition to their design work, they laid bricks on the floor, kneaded and painted earth on the walls and ceilings, and processed wood to construct the furniture themselves. They felt that it was necessary for architects to know the materials, actually touch them, and have the minimum skills to construct them, and that design ateliers should create things, move their hands, and think like the Ateliers of the past, and created a space out of the ubiquitous earth.
